My Looks: Prom

I’ve decided to start a new column where I dissect some of my favorite outfits. As a human being who leaves my house on a daily basis, I wear a lot of clothes, but now all clothes can create a look. I always strive to make my simple everyday outfits a look, so let’s break some of them down together.

Undoubtedly, one of my favorite looks ever was the one I wore to prom this year. When I set out to find a prom dress I knew I wanted it to be unapologetic, Barbie core pink. The first place I went was to the Alice and Olivia website.

I immediately fell in love with the gorgeous Domenica Embellished Ball Gown. When I tell you I fell head over heels for this dress, I am not lying. I loved it so much that I went into the Palm Beach store a few days later in an attempt to make myself hate the gown so I wouldn’t get it without looking at any other dresses. That quest was a complete failure, and I left the store that day with the gown and matching jacket shipped to my house.

With the dress secured there became the issue of accessorizing. I didn’t have a bag that matched the dress and couldn’t figure out what to do when I stumbled upon a solution in a hotel gift shop. I was in the Bahamas for spring break when I saw a stunning pink basket bag from Cult Gaia. I frankly had no idea how I was going to get it home and left it on the shelf. I went on the Cult Gaia website to buy the bag and have it shipped to my house, but I discovered that the bag was no longer made. So, I went down to the shop a few days later and bought the bag not knowing how on earth I was going to get it home.

When looking for shoes, the goal was simply to find the biggest platforms possible. The dress was a couple inches too long for me and getting a dress with such intricate beading hemmed is often a nightmare. My solution was just to wear a big ass pair of heels. I settled on the Valentino TAN-GO platforms but I still hadn’t decided on a color. I wanted to get the pink ones to match the dress, but was ultimately convinced to get the tan ones because they are more versatile.

In my opinion the heroes of prom were two purchases from amazon. The beautiful y2k style sunglasses I wore in all my prom pictures were a random amazon find that I totally fell in love with. I think the glasses helped tie everything together and truly made a cohesive look, by bringing the pink up to my head. The ultimate savior of the evening was the pair of frilly ankle socks you couldn’t see me wearing. I wore new shoes the day before prom that totally ate up my feet. There was o way I was making it through an hour in those platforms without a good pair of socks. Those little amazon socks made it so I could take pictures and dance for hours.

I hope you enjoyed dissecting this look with me! Take a look at my instagram and let me know which look I should examine next!
